Understanding Results

A nationally normed test Determines if a student is on track to be successful in college Results are reported according to how a student compares to other students across the nation

Results Show areas of strength and weakness which can help the student determine where they need support and where they may need to be challenged. Assist in planning coursework and setting goals for the future. (High School Graduation, College Preparation, or Workplace Training)

ACT Aspire Current Progress Report

A Parent’s Guide to Understanding the ACT Aspire Report How did my child do? You can find the results of your child in the upper left hand corner of the form. The score indicates how well your child did in each subject area. The three-digit score is based on the actual number of questions answered correctly and the total number of points earned. The score will fall into one of three readiness levels: Ready, Close, or In Need of Support. Students scoring in the Ready category are considered on target for college and career readiness. Students scoring in the Close or In Need of Support category may need additional help to reach their goal of being ready for college or the workplace.

ACT Readiness Benchmarks Tested Grade English Reading Math Science Writing 3 413 415 413 418 428 4 417 417 416 420 428 5 419 420 418 422 428 6 420 421 420 423 428

What can I do to help my child? The Aspire report you receive for your child includes suggestions of concrete things your child can do to develop greater proficiency in reading and math. On the right side of the pages where the reading and math scores are reported, there is an “Improvement Ideas” column where you can find specific ways to help your child strengthen his/her skills in these areas. In addition, on the Supplemental Scores page of the report in the Progress with Text Complexity section, skill-building ideas are provided. Progress With Text Complexity indicator- identifies whether the student is making sufficient progress toward reading the complex texts which the student will encounter as they further their education and work toward college and career

ACT Aspire Supplemental Scores Report

How does my child compare to other students? The Supplemental Scores page of your child’s results report includes a National Percentile Rank graph illustrating the percentage of other students in the nation in the same grade who received a score that is the same or lower than your child’s.

Action Plan Are scores at or above the ACT Readiness Benchmark Scores or within the ACT Readiness Ranges? If so, the student is doing well, but keeps working hard. There is still a lot to learn. They need to pay attention to the improvement ideas given for their lowest-performing skill in each subject. Are scores below the ACT Readiness Benchmark Scores or ACT Readiness Ranges? The student should pay attention to the improvement ideas, too. Review the suggestions for improving their skills listed on each page of their report, especially for their lowest-scoring skills. The student will definitely want to discuss any improvement ideas with their counselors, teachers, and parents so that all can work together to get the most from their courses and reach the goals of being ready for high school, college, and workplace training. It’s important to start taking action now.
