Essay Outline Guide: “How did the US contain communism?” Make sure to write this Question on the top line. Paragraph #1: Attention-grabbing thesis (topic sentence) Background info about what was going on with the USSR and the United States during and after WWII. Define containment and why the US thought it would work. Road map- Pick 3 of the 4 examples of containment that you read about in the documents and then write a sentence listing them. (You will go into further detail about each of these in Paragraph #2) Paragraph #2: Evidence: In one sentence each; explain the 3 examples of containment you picked and describe them. Next, explain; How or why they worked? Paragraph #3: Conclusion: restate the main question and then answer it, citing your 3 examples: “How did the US contain communism?”

Crash Course US History: 1950’s Culture/Civil Rights

WARM-UP Get out your 1950’s notes so we can finish watching the crash course and then you will turn in those papers. Grab: a packet of worksheets (1 of each) 1 piece of colored paper Glue Scissors. When we’re done, begin cutting out the pictures and the terms with questions attached. Next, match the picture with the term and glue it on the colored paper (you can use both sides if you need to and order does not matter). 5. Your goal today is to finish the cutting and gluing.

WARM-UP Finish your Cold War picture activity. Write the term, describe the picture and then answer the questions on the worksheet. When you are done, staple the worksheet to the front, turn it in and then grab a review and begin working on it. We will finish this on Monday and take the exam on Tuesday. Reviews are due Tuesday.
