United States v. Windsor (2013) Two women were arried, when one died the widow had to pay $360,000 estate tax because marriage wasn’t legal in the US Defense of Marriage Act declared unconstitutional and deprived married same-sex couples from their 5th amendment rights to equal protection

Hollingworth v. Perry (2013) California voters passed prop 8 banning same-sex marriage Court overturned proposition allowing California same sex couple to marry Only Applied to Western states covered by district court

Obergefell v. Hodges (2015) Supreme Court ruled fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by the due process clause and equal protection clause of 14th Amendment Made bans on same sex marriage illegal
