Leading toward the Revolution Tensions Rise Leading toward the Revolution

After the French and Indian War Britain was in a lot of debt after the war The British government thought it was fair to ask the colonists to pay some of that debt They did this partially by raising taxes on certain items The colonists would have none of it “No taxation without representation”

The Boston Massacre 1770 British Customs officials asked for the support of the British military Redcoats were sent to the colonies to enforce British rule and taxes A group of rowdy colonists were harassing a British sentry, throwing snowballs with rocks in them A small group of British soldiers, fearing for their lives shot into the crowd killing 5 people

The Result Patriots immediately started calling the incident a massacre John Adams volunteered to defend the soldiers Seven were acquitted and two were found guilty This resulted in the removal of British soldiers and the removal of all of the acts except the one on tea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP8rwwaRuww

The Boston Tea Party 1773 Tell me what you know about the Boston Tea Party

Sons and Daughters of Liberty They were the men and women who from the beginning opposed the British The men were the ones who threw the tea into the harbor The women would make their own fabric and clothing so that they wouldn’t have to rely on the British supply They boycotted all British goods The women refused to court men who were not sympathetic to the patriotic cause

The Coercive/intolerable Acts 1774 The Massachusetts Government Act The Admission of Justice Act The Boston Port Act The quartering Act The Quebec Act
