Familias de Diamantes Experience NASA Hispanic families from the Diamantes program at Saint Thomas More Catholic School in Chapel Hill, NC, visited NASA Langley and the National Institute of Aerospace to meet Hispanic Subject Matter Experts (SME). 23 upper elementary and middle school children had lunch with 6 Hispanic SME mentors. They shared their path to NASA with highlights of perks and challenges of being Hispanic and bilingual. The students also toured NASA Langley. 24 parents visited the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) where they met NIA representatives that led them through hands-on STEM activities. The parents participated in a panel discussion in Spanish with 3 NASA Langley atmospheric scientists about working at NASA and encouraging their children to pursue science careers. In total, over 10 Hispanic employees of NASA helped make this experience.
