Arts Liaisons in Action Real-world examples of what you do (or want to do)

Arts Liaisons in Action An Arts Liaison: serves as the primary point of communication between their school, the Department of Arts Education, Ingenuity, and arts partners. works to ensure that students, educators, and administrators in their school have access to important arts-related information across all disciplines. seeks actionable ways to expand and improve arts education and programming in their school and in the broader community. We have updated the job description so that it’s clearer and contains a breakdown of responsibilities We have an ADMINISTRATOR version of the role handout in our Toolkit. We do not have Lead Arts Liaisons this year because: 1) We shifted the focus to peer support around teaching and learning with our Arts Instruction Specialists. 2) We wanted to cast a wider net to bring in our high-flyers when and where they feel they can make the most impact. If you notice something that is not being done anymore, let us know!

Arts Liaisons in Action Examples: In small groups, come up with real-life examples of each of the main facets of the Arts Liaison role. Record your examples on chart paper. Serves as primary point of communication Fills out Creative Schools Survey accurately and on time Provides access to important arts-related information Sends regular emails to all staff about in- and out-of-school arts opportunities Expands and improves arts education and programming Applies for arts grants Uses Standards to advocate for dedicated arts classrooms/spaces

Arts Liaisons in Action Gallery Walk: Look at everyone’s posters. Debrief: What was exciting or interesting to you? What seems like a challenge? Did this give you any ideas for things you could do as an Arts Liaison?

Choosing Your Learning Track Evaluate your strengths and areas for growth

Choosing Your Learning Track Finding the Funding Write effective grant proposals, secure other external funding, and find free/cheap arts supplies and resources to maximize your budget 1 Building Buy-In Hone negotiation, communication, and advocacy skills to secure sustained commitment to the arts in your school community 2 Escape from Arts Island (aka Leading the Way without Losing Your Mind) Make arts project ideas a reality by developing effective peer collaboration, project management, and communication systems 3

Choosing Your Learning Track Complete the self-evaluation: What is an area of strength? What is an example of how you have fulfilled this responsibility? What is an area for growth? What questions, concerns, or challenges do you have?

Choosing Your Learning Track Choose an area of strength. Record an example of an accomplishment in that area. Choose an area for growth. Record a question, concern, or challenge in that area.

Choosing Your Learning Track Half of the group: Stand by an area of strength. Half of the group: Stand by an area of growth. Option 1: Strengths explain examples while growth areas ask questions. Option 2: Growth areas explain questions/concerns while strengths respond. Switch! (Strengths to growths, and vice versa)

Choosing Your Learning Track Vote to join a learning track on your phone, laptop, or other device! bit.ly/AL-Track
