GRAPHING NOTES Part 1.
Slideshow C4: Drawing graphs. Features of a good bar chart The bars should be drawn accurately with a pencil and ruler. They should be of equal width.

Making Graphs from Data. Bar, Line, or Pie? / One of the first things one needs to do when graphing is decide whether to make a bar graph or a line graph.
Graphs Graphs are used to display data. They visually represent relationships between data. All graphs should have a title that identifies the variables.

Graphing Exercise. In this exercise you are going to make as many dots as you can on your whiteboard in a chosen amount of time. You will then graph your.
Line Graphs A line graph is a way to summarize how two pieces of information are related and how they vary depending on one another. The numbers along.

Graphing Graphing used to Display the Data that scientists collected during a controlled experiment.
Bar Graphs Used for comparing separate groups. Axes X- axis: independent variable (what the scientist controls) Horizontal D – dependent R – responding.
Graph: a visual display of information or data
Graphing Data. Graphs All graphs must have title and labeled axis Labels let you know what information is shown.
GRAPHING NOTES Part 1. TYPES OF GRAPHS Graphs are used to illustrate what happens during an experiment. Bar graph - used for comparing data. Pie graph.

GRAPHING NOTES Understanding and constructing graphs.
Graphing. Line Graphs  Shows a relationship where the dependent variable changes due to a change in the independent variable  Can have more than one.
Graphing A step by step method. Line Graphs  A line graph is a style of chart that is created by connecting a series of data points together with a line.
Graphing in Physics. Graphing A way to display data that is collected in an experiment. They must be constructed accurately and neatly so data is understood.
Graphing Notes. All graphs must have: Title: must be specific Labels on each axis: must include a UNIT put unit in parentheses ( m )
 Line Graphs: are used to show something changing over time.  Bar Graphs: are used to show a comparison between two or more variables.  Pie Chart:

Presentation transcript:

Tell a Story with the Data All about graphing!

Variables and Axis Determine the variables. Dependent goes on Y axis (vertical) Independent goes on the X axis (horizontal)

Scale Let each box be equal to the same value. Take up the most amount of space!

Plot Data

Draw Graph A best fit line shows a trend.

Use a Key!

A graph tells a complete story! A- title B- dependent variable label C- independent variable label D- data E-scale F- key

Which type of graph should I use? Usually a line graph; if you are looking at the effect of one variable on another. Bar graphs compare groups. Pie charts are used for percentages.
