Arena information Land: Schlieffen Plan: a lightening-speed attack strategy created by Germany Water: British warship HMS Dreadnought was armoured to protect them from enemy fire Warships: carried troops and supplies Merchant marine: transported food, weapons, and munitions Air: Biplanes: this would be used for photographing and researching enemy troop movements Sharpshooters: people who was skilled in shooting

Strategies Alliance (Germany, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Italy): Schlieffen Plan: Germany would attack at lightening-speed against their enemies Chlorine gas: This gas was used to blind, burn, and kill the troops against Germany U-Boat: An undersea boat that could not be detected   Entente (Great Britain, France, Russian Empire): Convoy: helped protect their ships from German U-boats.

New Technologies or Techniques Machine guns: this new warfare could fire 400-500 rounds per minute Dirigibles (inflatable airships): German, France, and Italy used Dirigibles to scout and bomb during WW1 Guns: fired shells 40km upward and 130km away Planes: used to scout enemy positions, but was later used to shoot or throw grenades Submarines: mostly the U-boat was used New amour: tanks were more durable, to shelter soldiers Chemical warfare: gas harmed enemy troops

Common fighting Most of the fighting occurred on land, where trenches were dug, and gunfire was exchanged. Airborne attacks were also common, to kill more troops at once.

Experiencing the battle area Many of the living situations were poor, where viruses, corpses, and harsh environments surrounded troops and nurses. The experiences would be traumatizing for most, not it all, people experiencing the war.

Canadian contributions Many Canadians came together to help in the war Sent 30,000 soldiers Famous pilots were Canadian Contributed to war funds Spreading the message to ‘join the war’ Canadian contributions
