TO GOD BE THE GLORY (GHS 13) HYMN TO GOD BE THE GLORY (GHS 13)

TO GOD BE THE GLORY (GHS 13) To God be the glory, great things He hath done, So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, And opened the Life Gate that all may go in. 1. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice, Let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY (GHS 13) O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, To every believer the promise of God; The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives. 2. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice, Let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY (GHS 13) 3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; But purer, and higher, and greater will be Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice, Let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory, great things He hath done. END OF HYMN

HANNAH’S SONG OF PRAISE SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES LESSON 693: HANNAH’S SONG OF PRAISE

RECAP OF OUR LAST STUDY From our last study, entitled “The birth of Samuel”, we learnt that: God is faithful and will always remember those who faithfully call on him. Hannah’s breakthrough is an evidence of that. Believers should be faithful in attending spiritual gatherings. In case this is impossible, due consent should be requested from leadership. Despite criticism from Penninah and the previous encounter with Eli, Hannah was focused on her covenant with God when she returned to the temple. Hannah dedicated Samuel to the Lord and the Lord blessed her with more children. God rewards those who sacrifice to him. Believers should lead their children to the Lord already when they are young.

TODAY’S STUDY: LESSON 693: HANNAH’S SONG OF PRAISE MEMORY VERSE: “And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.” (1 Samuel 2:1). TEXT: 1 Samuel 2:1-11. The study of today is divided into three parts: God’s attributes extolled. God’s sovereignty exhibited. God’s ability predicted.

SUMMARY God’s attributes extolled (1 Samuel 2:1-3; Psalm 147:5; 99:4-5): Hannah attributed her praise to God and not to her labour in prayer or to Eli. God’s holiness is an attribute which stands out above the rest. This is a major reason why believers should worship the LORD. Moreover, holiness as an absolute requirement for believers is further emphasized. The Lord has perfect knowledge of everything. Nothing can be hidden from him. God’s sovereignty exhibited (1 Samuel 2:4-8; Daniel 4:34,35) God has absolute authority over all and acts according to his will. However He gives men the freedom to choose for or against Him. God’s attributes predicted (1 Samuel 2:9-11) God will preserve the saints and judge the adversary and the unrighteous. Believers should listen to songs which minister to the body of Christ and glorify God. Parents should prepare their children spiritually before ministration.

DISCUSSION

QUESTION 1 What can we learn from Hannah’s song of praise? 1 Samuel 2:1 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Job 5:8-9

QUESTION 2a Why is holiness an essential Christian experience? Lev 11:44,45; 19:2 Hebrews 12:14

QUESTION 2b How can a Christian be made holy? Hebrews 13:12 Psalm 119:9

QUESTION 3 How does the teaching on the sovereignty of God relate to man’s destiny? 1 Samuel 2:6-8 Daniel 4:35 Deuteronomy 30:15,16

QUESTION 4 What lessons do we learn from the songs we study in the scriptures? Exodus 15:1 Luke 1:46,47 Psalm 66:2

CONCLUSION We should remember to praise the Lord at all times, especially when the Lord answers our prayer. God is holy and believers are called to worship him in holiness and truth God is sovereign, full of knowledge and power. However we still have the free will to decide whether to serve God or not The Lord will preserve his servants and judge the unrighteous ultimately. Believers should listen to and sing songs that glorify the Lord and edify the body of Christ.
