Moodle Backup Create New Folder Easy to locate files Before starting in Moodle, we recommend that you create a file on your desktop or in My Documents and label it “Moodle backup” or sometime similar. You will need this file to save the downloaded material.
Moodle Backup Log into Moodle Select the course to backup When you are in the classroom, select “Backup” from the right side of the screen.
Moodle Backup You will see this screen
Moodle Backup Scroll all the way down and leave the boxes that are checked, checked. Then select “Jump to final step.”
Moodle Backup Then you will see the screen below. Select “Continue.”
Moodle Backup The next screen looks like the image below. You will go to the course and select Download toward the right side of the screen.
Moodle Backup You will start to see the course backup file being downloaded in the lower left side of your screen. While it is downloading, you will see a circle forming around a page image. When it is a complete, it will flash for a moment and they you will see the page image without a circle around it.
Moodle Backup Download Folder Rename the course Leave “.mbz” in the name Move it to the folder you created. It will have downloaded to your download folder. Go to your download folder and sort by date so that this file will be at the top or towards the top of your document list in the download folder. We recommend renaming the file to a concise name. For this example, we recommend ART 2010 Summer 2017 (You do not have to do the semester or year but if you remember the section you downloaded the course from, then this labeling may be helpful in the future.) Right click on the file name and select “Rename.”

If the course is one for the Spring semester, then you can import the course into the spring semester. If not, then contact Nichole Robinson at nrobinson@shorter.edu and she can create a course shell for you to import into and edit. Once you have the course shell in Canvas, you can import your material. You can access the courses from the Dashboard in Canvas or from selecting “Courses” on the left side of the screen. Then select “All Courses.”
