Orientation to Online Learning online It’s all about improving student success and retention in online courses What do students need and when do they need it?

Personal Attributes Skill building prior to Day 1 Self-discipline, self-direction, self-regulation, Self-efficacy (ex. ability to ask questions, identify and seek help when needed in areas such as tutoring and other academic and student support resources) Work independently, time management, ability to set priorities, set short and long-term goals to improve motivation, remain focused on academics

Technology Skills Prior to Day 1 Navigate and use functions of the learning platform (synchronous and asynchronous) Basic computer skills Adequate hardware and software Other technical skills required for specific course

Requirements of Specific Course From Faculty - Week 1 Expectations of a particular online course Flow of instruction Deadlines Assignment, grades, participation
