What’s Ahead in 3rd grade Keeping your child on track to be Future Ready!

Reading Curriculum Looking ahead: - Expository Text - Compare and contrast expository and literary text - Test Taking Genre Study - Comprehension Strategies We will continue to work on comprehension strategies, such as making inferences, drawing conclusions, and summarizing information, in preparation for the STAAR Test. We will also take a practice STAAR test next week to gather data to guide instruction for student success!

Reading STAAR Test date is Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Reading passages and comprehension questions are being used in class to prepare. You will see these coming home in Tuesday folders. You can use those as review to help your child. The weekly reading homework is important. Please make sure your child completes it each week to review in class on Fridays. Your child is going to be working on a foldable next week with test taking strategies! You can review that with your child when it comes home.

Math Curriculum Looking ahead the 3rd 9 weeks: Division Applications Graphing and Data Analysis Algebraic Reasoning (Word Problem application and multi-step problems) Measurement Geometry The two topics written in red are the remaining two concepts we have not yet covered. We will have about 3 weeks remaining for review and study practice!!! :)

Math STAAR Test Date April 21st Topics covered on the STAAR test Number Sense, place value Fractions (representing with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 also comparing) addition and subtraction concepts multiplication concepts, patterns and applications division application --along with concepts on previous slides

How Can We Help At Home? Websites to help! Think Central….see review assignments (students’ know how to access this!) Please review preview lessons and word problems on homework. Reflex...this is great for basic multiplication and division skills We will send Countdown to STAAR review packets which we are using as warm-ups. These are great for reviewing! Word Problems on the homework pages are the BEST daily review at home. Reading passages and comprehension questions are being used in class to prepare.
