Union For Ethical BioTrade Towards active private sector engagement 14 November 2018

UEBT Vision: Increased trade in biological resources actively contributes to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, as well as other sustainable development goals. Mission: To bring together actors committed to ethical biotrade, To promote, facilitate, and recognise trade practices in biological goods to meet the objectives of the CBD 14 November 2018

UEBT set-up Membership based organisation. Drivers are private sector companies, with support of NGOs, National BioTrade Programmes, other interested organisations. All members commit to working towards compliance with the internal UEBT standard which responds to CBD objectives UEBT thus seeks to actively engage business in the implementation of the CBD and other conventions First area of emphasis will be health ingredients sectors like the cosmetics and function foods 14 November 2018

Why the UEBT? Because biodiversity and therewith compliance with the CBD is becoming important for industry. Because few mechanisms exist to effectively engage private sector in this sector into CBD. Because bigger market recognition is required for companies that work towards such compliance following the UEBT standard. Because private sector requires best-practices, guidance and sharing of experiences on issue like conservation, sustainable use and benefit sharing are. 14 November 2018
