Manitas was selected as one of the schools to host the Thinking Lab pilot program this year. All students will attend a technology class weekly in the Thinking Lab. The curriculum will focus on reading digital text, responding to informational text, viewing and responding to media, improving technology practices, and practicing typing. All of this will be under the content focus area of science. Classroom teachers will continue to use technology in their classrooms and in the computer labs as they have in the past. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to support their learning integrating reading, writing, and science using technology. We are excited to have this pilot program at our school this year. Allison

Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) program designed to teach students reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while developing deep vocabulary and broad background knowledge. Core knowledge focuses on attending to the reading gap through addressing the knowledge gap. Core knowledge takes a fundamentally different approach from typical ELA programs, recognizing that teaching students about history, science, art, and literature is essential to their reading successfully in third grade and beyond. Core knowledge sequences background knowledge, building vocabulary and comprehension while instilling a life-long curiosity for learning. Provides a thorough approach to developing decoding and other foundational skills. It begins with the basic code and carefully helps students apply what they’ve learned through engaging 100% decodable readers and through response-to-text activities. Instruction continues to develop students’ reading proficiency, fluency, and comprehension throughout the grade levels. Allison
