Academic Search Premier GO back to the alphabetical list of databases and choose Academic Search Premier from the list. Here you can enter your search terms into the window; limit to scholarly articles, and search multiple databases. Lets choose an additional database for quicker searching.

Choose databases This section allows you to choose a few databases and search them all at the same time. Scroll down the list to find Psychology and behavioral sciences abstracts and the sociological collection.

Select the databases When you scroll down, check the boxes in front of the databases you want to search. If you continue scrolling, you will find the Continue button. Click and you go back to the search page.

Limits On the search page, each database has its own limiters. We have already selected the scholarly articles limit above; but look at each database limit to see if any of these are needed. You can hold down the control key while you click to select multiple options in each drop down menu.

Enter terms and combine them Here, I have entered my search terms and used the drop down menu for AND operator, again refer to your sheet. I have checked the box for scholarly articles. I have also added an * to the end of the word development*. This will replace any additional letters that could be added to the word, and find articles with those additional words in them. You should truncate any words that have alternate forms like development, developmental. More explanation is on the ASP searching sheet in your packet.

Search results Here is the results page. We found 11 articles, not too many to go through. Let’s look at number 1. Click on the title to view the abstract.

Viewing the summary This page shows the summary of the article (abstract), and its bibliographic information (what you need for the bibliography). It also shows the form of full text that is available. Click on the PDF Full text button to view the entire article.

Printing, downloading PDF Again, use the PDF buttons to print or save the article. Click the Results list button above to return to the list.

Find a Copy Now we are back on the results list and the article I want does not have a PDF icon. So we want to click on the FIND A COPY or OLINKS icon to see if Kent owns this item.

OLinks screen Click on the EJC link to view the entire article; scroll down the KSU has to see if a print version is available at MAIN. The citation list listed below; format your citation using the citation machine. Lets try the citation machine, since we have done the EJC printing previously. Choose the APA format by clicking in the radio button. Then click go

OLinks citation machine Follow the instructions to copy and paste the bibliography into a word processing document. You are responsible for the completeness of your bibliography, but this is a good start to finding the information that will be needed. Don’t forget to copy and save the url from the PDF of the article along with the date downloaded/printed. Scroll down for a form to adjust the information.

Additional information form Fill in the information that might be missing, the click format. Now lets close the window and go back to the results.

Saving bibliography information You can also use the results screen in the database to keep track of bibliographic information. Click the folder to the right of the article. It will change to full, after you have clicked it. Also the folder above the results. When you have finished checking for potential articles, click on the Folder has items to see the list of selections.

Viewing the folders You can edit what is in this folder, keep copies of the articles; or just print/email/save the info to a disk.

Saving articles or bibliographies We have chosen to save the information. Again, choose whether you want to save the fulltext, the citation and abstract, etc. Choose from the pull down menu and click save to choose a disk. Click back to return to the list or change your search.
