Political maps *Political maps are maps that have to do with government. They show where the boundaries and locations of countries, states, cities, towns and counties are. Physical maps *A physical map shows things like the locations of rivers, mountains, and other permanent geographic features. *Physical maps often include much of the same data found on a political map, but their primary purpose is to show landforms like deserts, mountains and plains. Their topography style presents an overall better picture of the local terrain.

Population maps A population map is used to represent the overall distribution of population within a particular area. Resource maps *A resource map shows what sort of natural or agricultural resources, such as crops or minerals, there are in a certain area. The amount of a resource is shown by a picture symbol. The bigger the symbol, the more of the resource there is! 1. What are the natural resources you see?

Polar projection maps *A map projection of the sphere in which the point of sight is at the center and the plane of projection passes through one of the polar circles.

Climate maps *Climate maps give general information about the climate and precipitation (rain and snow) of a region. Cartographers, or mapmakers, use colors to show different climate or precipitation zones. 1. What is the average temperature in Maine?
