The phrase Manifest Destiny was first used by John L The phrase Manifest Destiny was first used by John L. O’Sullivan in an article published in 1845 in the United States Magazine and Democratic Review. O’Sullivan said it was “our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.”
