Agility Unleashed: What SD-WAN Can Do for You James Hilliard: Welcome

Agenda 1 SD-WAN as a Business Enabler 2 Value of SD-WAN & Broadband Aggregation 3 Use Cases & What Success Looks Like 4 Roadmap for WAN of the Future – Best Next Steps 5 Audience Q&A James: For many people SD-WAN is not a familiar concept. We’ve all heard about Software defined Networking, but not so much perhaps about SD WAN – but that’s rapidly changing, thanks in part to people like the two experts with us today. So for the next 45 minutes or so we’ll take a deep dive on SD-WAN, what it is, what it might be able to do for you that conventional WANs can’t, then provide you with some concrete next steps so you can continue to learn more on your own – in terms of whether it’s right for your organization. To help us do that, let me start by introducing our networking experts…

Featured Speaker Louie Belt Principal Architect/CCIE #7054 Advanced Network & DC Solutions Pomeroy James: So, in order of appearance let me first introduce… …Steve Vandegriff. He is Managing Practice Director at Pomeroy for Workplace, Data Center and Network Services. He is responsible for thought leadership, development and delivery of enterprise workplace, data center and network solutions, including server, storage, virtualization, networking, collaboration, cloud and managed services. He executes the company’s go-to-market strategies and programs to provide marketing support, sales enablement and quality solutions for Pomeroy clients. Also with us today is Louie Belt. Louie is Principal Solution Architect for Advanced Data Center Solutions at Pomeroy. What that means is Louie spends most of his time on the front lines with Fortune 1000 organizations on a daily basis evaluating their business requirements and architecting advanced technology solutions designed to optimize their IT infrastructures. Louie, I believe it was almost two years ago you were last with us discussing the latest innovations in network security and threat management strategies. Welcome gentlemen.

SD-WAN growth is exploding and will continue for at least the next 5 years 60% 25% 2015 SD-WAN Sales - $213M 2017 SD-WAN Sales $1.19B Over the next five years, SD-WAN sales will grow at a 69% compound annual growth rate, hitting $8.05 billion in 2021, according to IDC’s Worldwide SD-WAN Forecast, 2017–2021 20% 15% 10% 5% 1% 0% Steve: 2015 2017 2018 2021

What’s Driving the Rapid Move to SD-WAN Organizations want to launch new applications for their employees and customers Can be challenging across the WAN…the distributed enterprise Includes Financial, Manufacturing, Healthcare, especially Retail with 100’s or 1,000’s of locations It’s challenging because… New applications require lots of bandwidth, e.g., streaming video, voice, web applications Bandwidth is expensive because most WAN’s are built around MPLS To make changes requires IT to touch each network device, can take days/weeks Still a very manual process…tedious, easier to make errors Steve:

What’s Driving the Rapid Move to SD-WAN Easy Deployment Agility Savings Performance Application Prioritization Security According to Forrester, 64% of U.S. based companies are planning to implement or expanding implementation from a traditional WAN to an SD-WAN solution in the next 12 months. Steve:

Application Prioritization The Value Of SD-WAN The solution is SD-WAN because it brings together two things that deliver #1: SD-WAN Technology (Delivering a smarter network) Roll out new applications & manage WAN from a single pane of glass Make changes in minutes vs. days/weeks Achieve the same if not greater levels of security, reliability, quality & performance of an MPLS solution #2: Broadband to augment or replace MPLS (Delivering a less expensive network) DSL, Cable & Ethernet…& Cellular (4G) as secondary or tertiary backup Far less expensive than MPLS Allows you to load balance broadband circuits in a Active/Active manner Quality of Service (QoS) to give applications like voice and video preference over other traffic SD-WAN Easy Deployment Agility Savings Performance Application Prioritization Security Steve:

Application Prioritization The Value Of SD-WAN Minimal Touch Deployments Provision remote locations with simplified configuration & automation New hardware is added by plugging it in to power and the network If a device goes down you unplug it…and plug in another one Cloud or on-premise based SD-WAN controllers SD-WAN Easy Deployment Agility Savings Performance Application Prioritization Security Agility Single Point of Management – Simple, Easy, Centralized Central SD-WAN controller supports network-wide policy definitions as well as network-wide traffic visibility Minimal time to change or to launch new applications Changes to the network made in minutes vs. days/weeks/months Steve:

Application Prioritization The Value Of SD-WAN Savings Seamlessly integrate lower cost broadband (DSL, Cable, Ethernet, Fiber) to augment or replace MPLS Increase bandwidth and availability while lowering costs SD-WAN Easy Deployment Agility Savings Performance Application Prioritization Security Performance Increase throughput based upon multiple load sharing telco connections Enhanced reliability based upon multiple links and cellular backup Direct cloud access for SaaS applications Network Visibility and Analytics – dynamic path selection based on delay, loss, jitter, path preference and policies Direct branch to branch connectivity Steve:

Application Prioritization The Value Of SD-WAN Application Prioritization QoS and traffic shaping to identify, map and prioritize applications based upon business requirements Which applications are running, how much bandwidth they consume and a simple way to prioritize those applications SD-WAN Easy Deployment Agility Savings Performance Application Prioritization Security Security IPsec VPN tunneling Unified Threat Management (UTM) based upon SD-WAN capabilities Secure branch access directly to Internet and SaaS applications Steve: [Steve tosses to Louie to cover the ‘technology landscape’]

SD-WAN Technology Landscape There are many players – here’s what they are doing right now Defining what SD-WAN means Differentiating their service from others Solving the problem based on their core strengths of architecture Data Center/WAN optimization/Cloud orchestration Remote location dynamic path routing & instant failover Data compression & acceleration Packet duplication & Tag-in-sequence to ensure no data loss Expected outcomes More entrants in the short run Expected vendor-creditor funding slows Consolidation / mergers & acquisitions Louie:

The Value of Great SD-WAN Partners Market leader in WAN connectivity Current iWAN routers, e.g., 4300/4400 are SD-WAN ‘ready’. Option feature sets include cloud management and policy based management to automatically push configurations Very robust solution based upon multiple components – router, APIC-EM, Prime Software SD-WAN ‘light’, but not light on capabilities, easy cloud base deployment & management Product family includes cloud managed wireless, switching, security & mobility management Native advanced security and Unified Threat Management including SourceFire IDS/IPS updated daily Recently announced acquisition by Cisco Easy integration with existing legacy routed networks that are large and complex. SD-WAN controller can be implemented as a hosted service or virtual appliance Focused on optimizing the user experience as they consume cloud applications with worldwide deployment of SD-WAN controllers in the cloud (280 gateways) assuring LAN to cloud traffic is optimized Very robust ability to incorporate partner technologies, e.g., security, via virtual network function (VNF) Unity EdgeConnect physical or virtual appliances deliver predictable application performance over any combination of transport services including low-cost consumer broadband. Orchestrated application-driven security policies enable direct internet breakout for trusted SaaS and web applications. Louie: [Louie tosses back to Steve to cover a couple of recent SD-WAN use cases]
