SPRAYBERRY HIGH SCHOOL Georgia High School Graduation Diagnostic Testing Fall 2008

Purpose of Diagnostic Testing To give students an opportunity to understand the types of questions they will encounter during spring graduation testing To identify skills or knowledge where individual students might need further instruction to be successful on the test Provide parents with information about how they can help their child prepare for spring testing To help Sprayberry High School identify and plan for students who might need extra academic support in English/Language Arts or Math prior to spring testing

Diagnostic Testing Details Tests in Math and ELA were designed by Cobb Curriculum Supervisors Administered to 11th graders in September and October of 2008 Testing experience was similar to what students will have next spring

English/Language Arts Areas of Student Strength Areas Where Additional Support Needed Writing Conventions Reading Comprehension Literary Analysis

Mathematics Areas of Student Strength Areas Where Additional Support Needed Number and Computation Algebra

Our Plan We will use the following strategies, based on data analysis, to address areas needing extra academic support in both English and Math: Additional diagnostic testing to determine accurate reading levels and specific math skills needing support Scheduled elective support classes Tutoring two afternoons per week beginning in September until the Georgia High School Graduation Tests in March Benchmark testing in December and February to monitor achievement gains

More About Our Plan AVID Encourage increased enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement courses Second Chance credit recovery and academic support class WIN (Work Intensively Now) program, tutoring specifically for athletes Parent and community involvement through letters, phone calls, parent meetings, advisement conferences, and the web site Student and teacher informational meetings to present data results, plans for improvement, and increased student achievement
