The Settlement of Ville-Marie Ville Marie was the first name of Montreal Ville Marie was settled (started) in 1642 Ville Marie was supposed to be a place where Missionaries could convert the First Occupants

The Settlement of Ville-Marie Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve was the man in charge of settling Ville-Marie 10 years later, 100 new people live in Ville-Marie By 1685, about 600 people live in Montreal

The Settlement of Ville-Marie Soon after Ville Marie was founded, 2 important women show up: Jeanne Mance  she started the first hospital Margarite Bourgoeys  She started the first school

New France gets bigger After 1663 more French explorers start travelling through North America They mostly travelled by canoe French explorers made it all the way to the Gulf of Mexico

New France gets bigger Because of the French explorers, New France can extend it’s territory. By 1700, New France was 3-4 times as big as it was in the early 1600s
