Fault Seal Analysis TERRASCIENCES

What is Fault Seal Analysis? The study of the likelihood of a fault to allow fluids to move across the fault plane (leak) or not (seal).

Where should Fault Seal Analysis be applied? Depositional environments with synsedimentary normal faulting - deltaic environments. E.g. Nigeria, Gulf Coast, North Sea. Other areas where faulting through plastic/nonplastic lithology combinations may impact fluid movement.

Who needs faults seal analysis ? Production Geologists. Production Engineers.

Technical details ... Utilizes sand/shale identifier curve (eg. GR). Can analyze single or multiple displacements.

Key Benefits Provide insight into likelihood of fault seal or leak within the field under development. Needs no seismic data. Provides several different algorithms. Smear Gouge Analysis Clay Smear Potential Smear Gouge Ratio Shale Gouge Ratio Smear Factor

Smear Gouge Analysis Allows entry of most likely reservoir thickness. Uses a range of fault displacements. Graphs displacement against Smear Gouge Ratio for Cross Seal Ru, Dip Seal Ru, Cross Seal Rd, and Dip Seal Rd.
