BIOMES WHAT IS A BIOME?

BIOMES Biomes are large regions characterized by a specific type of climate and certain types of plant and animal communities. Each biome is made up of many individual ecosystems.

BIOMES Plants in a particular biome have characteristics, specialized structures, or adaptations that allow the plants to survive in that biome. EX. CACTUS IN DESERT

BIOMES PLANTS DIFFER FROM ONE BIOME TO ANOTHER, SO DO ANIMALS

The World’s Major Terrestrial Biomes

BIOMES Climate is the main factor in determining which plants can grow in a certain area or Biome Temperature and precipitation are the two most important factors that determine a region’s climate.

Temperature and Precipitation

Latitude and Altitude

Terrestrial Biomes 8 TERRESTRIAL BIOMES ON THE PLANET: TROPICAL RAIN FOREST TEMPERATE FOREST TAIGA TROPICAL SAVANNA TEMPERATE GRASSLAND CHAPARRAL DESERT TUNDRA

Aquatic Biomes Coral Reefs Freshwater Ponds & Lakes Wetlands; Swamps (Freshwater & Saltwater) Rivers Marine Estuaries
