TOOL TAGGING GENERAL MOTORS

VENDOR TOOL IDENTIFICATION GUIDELINES All tools must be marked containing the following minimum two pieces of information: “Property of General Motors” The complete Asset Number tool I.D. number. The Asset Number can be obtained from Cary Stefanski. Email: cary.stefanski@alps.com You can etch, stamp or engrave directly onto the tool or use a tag.

If a tag is used, the following applies: Tags must be attached to the tool using rivets or screws. The information placed on the tag must be stamped or legibly engraved. In cases where the tool or tools are too small to tag, place the tool or tools into a container. Then tag the container using the parameters set above. In the case where tools are made of hardened steel, these should be stamped or engraved with the necessary information prior to heat treatment.

Specific small tools stored in a container must indicate in the tool picture attachment description of each tool that matches the GM Tooling Purchase order. The picture below is a good example of tagging a container with small tools that cannot be tagged.

Preferred Location of Tag: General Note: All Tags/Engraving Markings should be applied to the top of the tool or on the operator side. Dies/Molds: Side of Ejector Box (preferably recessed) Gages: On top surface Secondary Tooling: Front face of electrical panel Fixture inside (POA) should be on top face

Standard tags will be provided by Alps. Please contact cary Standard tags will be provided by Alps. Please contact cary.stefanski@alps.com for further help.

Unacceptable practices: Tags that state “GM Owned” or just “GM” Using paint or magic marker to place VTAM numbers directly on a tool or on a tag. The use of any adhesives, tape, soldering or welding is not allowed. Tag engravings / Stampings that are not legible. Incomplete information on the tag.

Tool Pictures Three photographs of each tool and tag combination are required. 1. The first photograph should be a close up of the tag clearly showing the asset number. 2. The second photograph should be one that depicts the entire tool. The tag should be visible in this view. You must be able to zoom in and read the tag clearly. The third picture should be an open view of the tool showing cavities. Pictures must be in a JPEG format
