Short Story Inquiry Unit What Makes a Story? Short Story Inquiry Unit

Activity Fantastic Binomial I am going ask two students to say a word. You and your partner must then come up with a story revolving around the two said words. You will have 5-10 min. to complete your story, then we will share. You may record your story in your Literature Learning Log.

Your turn Take a few minutes and brainstorm with your partner on your dry erase boards what you both believe you need to tell or write a story.

Story Invention Organize time and space into a: Cause-and-effect chain of events with a beginning-middle-end, and Embodies a judgment about the nature of events (causing a transformation) and Is communicated Make sure you copy this down

4 C’s A Continuum (time and space) Caused by something (cause-and-effect) A reCognition (is communicated) Is Credible

A Story in a Limerick There once was a woman from Niger Who smiled as she rode on a tiger They returned from the ride With the lady inside And a smile on the face of the tiger

Let’s see it in action… We are going to watch the first few minutes of the “Bourne Supremacy”. See if you can identify the four elements of story invention in the movie clip.

A good story allows for… the suspension of disbelief…… You as a reader or view become emotionally involved in the story.

Digital Storytelling… As one of the choices for your final project for our short story inquiry unit is to create a digital story. Either: A MeStory A Story of Change www.digitalbooktalk.com
