Shimmer What is a synonym for shimmer? When things shimmer, they shine with a soft unsteady light. We saw a reflection of the moon shimmer on the lake.

Eerie When something is eerie, it is frightening and strange. Describe an eerie event that you have experienced. The cry of the wolf in the distance sounds eerie.

Lurk To lurk is to hide, usually with a bad intention. How are the words lurk and hide the same? How are they different? If you see a cat lurk near a birdbath, it is likely that the cat is looking for a meal!

Swallows As someone swallows, he or she is moving food from the mouth to the rest of the digestive system. Where does food go after someone swallows it? Colin chews thoroughly before he swallows.

Climate The climate of an area is the weather that it usually has. How would you describe the climate in your community? The climate in southern Florida is tropical.

Silken What things can you think of that could be described as silken? Something can be called silken if, like silk, it has delicate threads or is generally soft and shiny. The kitten’s fur was silken.

Lumbering If you are lumbering, you are moving slowly and heavily. What is an antonym for lumbering? The horses were lumbering through the snow storm.
