Construct an Octagon Inside of a Circle

1. Using your compass, draw a circle with a 3 inch radius, label the center O.

2. Using a ruler draw a diameter through the center of the circle 2. Using a ruler draw a diameter through the center of the circle. Label it AB. O A B

3. Extend the compass to 4 ½ inches and then swing an arc above and below the circle from points A and B. O A B

4. Draw a line through the intersecting points above and below the circle. Label it CD.

5. Put the endpoint of the compass on A and adjust the compass to a comfortable width. Swing an arc outside the circle on both sides of point A. Then do the same for the other points. O A B C D
