Healthy Relationships Chapter 11

OBJECTIVES We will know how to articulate concrete ways to improve upon negative situations. We will understand components of a healthy relationship. We will state what is important to YOU in a relationship – values and opinions,

Relationships Relationships are bonds or connections between people. Relationships affect your physical, mental and social health.

Compromise Compromise is the result of each person’s giving up something in order to reach a solution that satisfies everyone. The “give and take” of compromise helps a relationship run smoothly. You must be willing to give up something in order to reach a solution.

Cooperation Working together for the good of all. When is it important for cooperation?

Communication A process through which you send messages to and receive messages from others. Communication is critical because it lets others know what you feel, what you want and need, and what you know. There are 3 basic skills associated with effective communication: speaking, listening and body language.

Qualities to look for in a partner… Respect Acceptance Honesty Trustworthiness Dependability Loyalty Empathy- the ability to share another person’s feelings or thought.
