Počítač v súčasnosti využívame na množstvo činností. Všetky činnosti s informáciami počítača vieme zaradiť do 4 skupín: Získavanie Spracovanie Uchovávanie Šírenie

Informácie Informácia je „správa“, ktorá má význam pre príjemcu. Textové Grafické Zvukové

Pre každý typ informácií potrebujeme iný program, ktorý ich dokáže otvoriť, spracovať a upravovať. V počítači je vytvorená "tabuľka", ktorá obsahuje dvojicu údajov: príponu a program, ktorý ju môže otvoriť.
