History Writing Workshop 1 What is a paragraph? A paragraph is a collection of related sentences dealing with a single topic A paragraph should have three parts: Topic sentence Supporting sentence(s) Concluding sentence

A Topic Sentence... introduces the reader to exactly what you are writing about in your paragraph or essay. is clear and concise. can occur anywhere in the introductory paragraph, but they are often placed at the beginning of the paragraph. are interesting and attention grabbing.

Supporting Sentence Facts Descriptions Examples Explanations Every paragraph has sentences that relate to and help to develop the main idea in the topic sentences.
