The technological world specifications

Specifications Requirements and needs (technical, financial and other obligation) necessary for the project to be carried out.

Constraints The physical constraints The technical constraints The economic constraints The industrial constraints The human constraints The environmental constraints

The physical constraints Concerns all the natural elements ( air, water, dirt, etc) Example : Exposed to rain = rust This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

The technical constraints Factors that affect the operation of the object Example : Maximum speed of the bicycle How long the batterie last

The economic constraints All cost the designer has to take into account ( production cost, selling price and maintenance costs) This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

The industrial constraints Everything about industry : Where is it manufactured The production facilities The tools The work force The completion deadline This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

The human constraints The people who will use it, maintain and repair the product. Example : The object is liked, easy to maintain. Aesthetics, safety and comfort

The environmental constraints Concerns the effects on the environment. Example : Less pollution Recyclable This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND

Exercices The object must have neutral colours Human The object must have neutral colours Industrial The object must be made entirely in the Norbert workshop Physical The object must be waster-resistant up to 30 m Technical The object must use batteries that are widely available Economic Replacement batteries for the object must be inexpensive Environmental The object must contain glass and recycled fibers

Exercices Human / Technical The stapler must be strong, durable and able to staple at least 30 pages together Human It must be a bright colour so it can be spotted easily in a drawer Environmental It must be completely recyclable Technical Its staple-feeder must be able to hold at least 100 staples Economic It must cost less than $3 to make
