Environmental Science Do Now 11-21-17 Do Now: Take your Do Now sheet out and yesterday’s notes on acid precipitation to help you answer each question.   An acid has a pH less than ___. What is acid precipitation? What chemicals cause acid precipitation? How does smog production relate to acid precipitation? What effect does acid rain have on lakes? What effect does acid rain have on trees?

Environmental Science Do Now 11-21-17 Key An acid has a pH less than 7. What is acid precipitation? Precipitation that falls from the sky with a pH less than 7. What chemicals cause acid precipitation? Sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, nitrogen oxides, PANs and other oxides typically cause acid precipitation. How does smog production relate to acid precipitation? When the chemicals that cause smog react with the water/water vapor in the atmosphere, acid precipitation forms. What effect does acid rain have on lakes? Acid rain causes fish kills and other aquatic wildlife to die. What effect does acid rain have on trees? Acid rain causes trees to lose their leaves and have stunted growth.

Objective The student will know how human actions have influenced the Earth’s resources by answering concept check questions. Mastery Level: 14/20 correctly answered concept check questions
