Presentation transcript:

The Crucible Bellringer Directions: Use your notes over the Salem Witch Trials PowerPoint to help you complete the questions below. What event started the suspicion that there were witches in Salem? With what type of evidence were witches convicted? What is the only way to avoid execution? Why is this ironic?

The Crucible Bellringer Think about the social media discussion we had yesterday, and think about the history of the Salem Witch Trials. Explain what you think these two things have in common. In what ways are they similar? Today’s Target: I can describe the historical context of the 17th century.

The Crucible Bellringer Directions: Use your notes from Friday to help you answer these questions. Who is the author (playwright) of The Crucible? What was the author’s purpose in writing The Crucible? Today’s Target: I can compare and contrast what is directly stated in a text according to its implied or inferred meaning.

The Crucible Bellringer Directions: Use your character chart notes and your understanding of what we read yesterday to answer these questions. What is Reverend Parris upset about at the beginning of the play? TRUE or FALSE: Abigail believes Betty is witched at this point in the play. Today’s Target: I can compare and contrast what is directly stated in a text according to its implied or inferred meaning.

The Crucible Bellringer Directions: Use your understanding of what we read to answer these questions. In what ways does Abigail try to get John Proctor back in Act I? What does the lengthy fight the adults have demonstrate about the town of Salem? Give an example of something Rebecca Nurse said in Act I that demonstrates that she is the voice of reason. Today’s Target: I can compare and contrast what is directly stated in a text according to its implied or inferred meaning.

The Crucible Bellringer Directions: Use your understanding of what we read yesterday to answer these questions. Why do you think Abigail accuses Tituba of witchcraft? At the end of the act, why do you think Abigail now claims witchcraft is real? What is her motive? Today’s Target: I can compare and contrast what is directly stated in a text according to its implied or inferred meaning.
