Study Guide 503

A career plan for an interior designer should include courses in the area of art. A career plan for high school ensures that a student will take appropriate courses in high school. A career plan is an outline of what a person wants to achieve in their work life. A chart used to rank possible career choices for a career plan is a personal career profile form.

A course of action toward achieving career and educational goals is a career plan. A job search should not be included as activities on a career plan. A planned action toward a goal is a strategy. A step by step plan of action including career information influenced by an individual’s ultimate career goal is know as a career plan. A student who is pursuing career goal to work in communication should plan for a number of courses in speech and English.

A student will need to follow an action plan in order to reach a career goal. A tentative goal for post secondary career/education plans ensures that the student will be prepared for post secondary choice. A written career plan is least needed in elementary school. An individual career plan should be updated annually Career plans need to be recorded in writing.

Career prep (CRP) prepares a student for the least number of post secondary opportunities. Extra curricular/volunteer activities can help develop career skills. Formal assessments are a critical component of the individual career plan because they are required for graduation and post secondary entrance. Having a written career plan can help assure that students will have better career direction.

Having a written career plan increases chances of being satisfies with career decisions. Having advanced education and training ensures more career opportunities. If an ultimate goal is to become an English teacher, a career plan should include a number of courses in writing and literature. If an ultimate goal is to become a physical therapist a career plan should include getting a bachelors degree.

If your ultimate goal is to become a lawyer, then your career plan should include continuing education beyond a bachelor’s degree. Important reasons to consider extracurricular/CTSO activities as part of a career plan are the following; you develop valuable transferable skills, develop interpersonal skills, and you can participate in volunteer activities.

In planning coursework it is important to select courses based on career and educational goals. Jackie wants to become a pilot, what should she include as part of her career plan obtains a pilots license. Once a student’s ultimate career goal is achieved it is likely that he/she will change jobs and/or careers several times. Planning to work as a sales person before becoming a retail store manager is a stepping stone goal.

Prior to completing a high school four year plan students would take several self assessments, decide on a career focus, discuss career interests with parents and teachers. Recording your career plan helps you; revise it as needed, keep track of progress, and focus on goals. Skills and aptitudes can help develop a career plan. The first step in reviewing a career plan is to explore career trends and job market data.

Why is a career pathway an important component of an individual career plan? Because an individual can explore career clusters of interest to them. Why is it important to consider entry level work experiences as part of the individual career plan? Work experiences help connect classroom knowledge with workplace skills. Worker at one level who master that level and then move up to the next level of a job are on a career ladder.
