AIM Give an Quick overview of Eastern Africa Standby Force(EASF) Documentation Of The Journey Towards The Child Protection CURRICULUM AND TOOLKIT

INTRODUCTION The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) is one of the 5 Regional Standby Forces of African Standby Force (ASF) Established Under African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) Multidimensional in Nature: Military, Police and Civilian Components Full Operational Capability (FOC) in 2014 EASF In Conjunction With Save the Children Collaborated To Build The capacity Of Personnel Assigned To Peace Support Mission On Child Protection

PROCESS To Standardize, EASF And Save the Children Have Developed A Toolkit Which Has Undergone A Rigorous Process During A Workshop Initiated In Addis Ababa In 2009 The Aim of The Toolkit Is (1) To Enhance Knowledge, And Skills, Shape Attitudes And Behaviors Necessary To Protect Children

Cont’d (2) To Standardize The Approach To The Protection and Promotion of Children’s Rights By Member States at National and Regional Training Centers/ Institutions Partners and Other Stakeholders EASF steered the Process which has started in 2013, and in April 2017 EASF launched the Child Protection Training Curriculum The Toolkit Aims to Ensure that Child Protection is Incorporated as part of the Mandatory Trainings that Peace Support Operations Personnel Undergo Before Being Deployed.

TOOLKIT CONTENT The Course Consists of The Following Elements: -CURRICULUM : It Is The Framework Of The Course, Containing A Course Outline And Giving An Overview Of The Course; -STUDENT HANDBOOK: In The Case of The Toolkit There Is No Dedicated Student HANDBOOK But HAND-OUTS Which Can Be Collected and Put Together As A Handbook;

Cont’d -FACILITATOR’S GUIDE: It provides Everything That A Facilitator Will Need to Run The Course; Detailed Contents, Learning Objectives, Bibliography and Related Materials, Flowcharts, Exercises, etc. -POCKET GUIDE: Very Short Reference Tool Providing Key Elements, Checklists or Pictures to Be Used During Operations, and Handed over to

RESOURCE PACKAGE (to accompany the facilitator’s guide) -Data Sheet, (contain information relating to the Module and often go beyond the information that can be covered in a session) -Activity Book, -Answer Book, -Power Point Presentations, All can be Reproduced for Each Participant
