ELA Week of 1/8/18 Mrs. Weaver

happy new year & welcome back! File your papers in your folder. Tests and quizzes go under test/quiz folder. Essays go under writing folder. In one folder, write a reflection for quarter 2: What did you do well on? Why? What will you improve on? How? When you are done, file your folder in your folder found in the black bin. No more than 3 people at a time. Read a book when you are finished or if you are waiting to file.

How can we evaluate or judge writing? Discuss with a partner how you can evaluate or judge writing. How do you know if the writing is well written? How do you know if it is credible (reliable)? How do you know if the writing is weak?

PLAN YOUR ESSAY You will create a 5 paragraph essay writing to explain how to evaluate the criteria of ________ (insert your topic). You must have 3 different sets of criteria (qualities) to judge your topic. Create a chicken foot with your thesis and 3 body paragraphs. Write your introduction when finished. Remember to include a hook, background information, and write your thesis. Place the papers in your blue folder or take home if you need help finding your sources. You must have this in class tomorrow!!! Read a book when finished.

Find your sources – You must use kidtopia.info for your search! You will have 30 minutes to find 3 sources and 4-6 pieces of evidence for your essay. If you are not sure if it is an appropriate site, raise your hand. You will write down the evidence on the paper you used for your planning. Remember to look for evidence to support the criteria you chose to write about for each body paragraph. You should aim for 2 pieces of evidence for each criteria/paragraph. Remember you are looking fore evidence to inform someone how to judge/evaluate your topic!

Write your essay Proof read your work then read a book when done. Write to explain how to judge the criteria of ____________________ (insert your topic). Remember to include: -An introduction with a hook, background information, thesis (from chicken foot) -3 body paragraphs (one for each criteria) with evidence to support each criteria Remember you are writing to explain how someone would judge/evaluate your topic! -Conclusion -Transitions -Proper punctuation and spelling Proof read your work then read a book when done.

On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere is sent to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming He stop at every house to warn they. Two other men, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott, also rode hoarses, but Paul Revere became famous. All 3 men were arrested by the British but Hancock and Adams were safe.

Autobiography Directions: You will write an autobiography about your life. Decide what important events you will write about. You must have the following: Introduction 3 Body Paragraphs to represent 3 specific events/times in your life. For example: Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School or Elementary school years, Family trip in 2012, Baby brother being born in 2015 You must write about them in chronological order. Conclusion Remember to use the proper pronouns in your writing. Remember to use specific events, statements, and feelings in your writing
