Balanced arguments need examples: Uncodified strengths Coherent and tested: A.V. Dicey Clear source of political authority: Statute laws have to go through systems to be made Rule of law: EVERYONE obeys and laws are tested by time and circumstance Flexible: Adaptable to change

Disadvantages Uncertainty: Ambiguous and needs to be reread regularly Outside agencies can over-rule Parliament – EU laws over rule Constitution There is an unspecified role for the monarch – devalued over time Weak protection of rights and systems – Human Rights Act
