Industrial Design

Industrial Design Systematic labour Especially for some useful purpose or the creation of something of value

Industrial Design To create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan To conceive and plan out in mind To devise for a specific function or end

Industrial Designers Industrial designers create the physical design of various products that make it both practical to use and interesting to look at. Science/engineering + art + design

Industrial Design

Your task Design and create a life-size shoe (or bigger) that looks functional as well as aesthetically interesting. Your shoe must be made entirely out of cardboard and brown paper bags. All of the features and details of the shoe can only be rendered in the colour brown. Materials: Brown paper bags Rubber cement Tape Scissors Utility cutters

Process In your sketchbook, design at least 3 different types of shoes (can be done in line) You should experiment with different combinations of elements and principles until you settle on one you want to continue with Think of all aspects and angles of your shoe (shoelaces – twisted paper, buckles that actually work, and any decorative patterns and textures on different areas of the shoes and soles). Process development is also an art – keep your sketches clear and concise. Plan out HOW you will construct it. Craftsmanship is important and any bonding materials such as tape, glue or rubber cement should not be visible. See me for approval.

Evaluation /20 /30 Productive use of class time. FOUNDATIONS Productive use of class time. Much time and effort went into planning and design of shoe. You came prepared with needed materials. You used class materials well. You always cleaned up after yourself. You’ve managed your time well. Complete on time.   /20 CREATION All aspects and angles of your design are well planned out. Attention to detail. You thoroughly planned out the construction of your shoe. Design is aesthetically interesting and creative. Shoe is well proportioned. The shoe shows that you took pride in your work. The construction of your shoe is neat (free of unwanted bumps, marks, tears). Adhesive is well hidden. /30
