6 1 2 3 4 5 6 WEEK Half-Term 1 GCSE Chemistry ‘Revise-athon’ Beginner Plan Dedicate 15-30 minutes every day, even if it is at lunch or break time, to follow this steady-does-it program. It allows you to track your revision gradually to get you to your exams feeling well prepared. WEEK MON TUE WED THU FRI SAT SUN 1 Define acid, base, neutralisation, activation energy, rate, catalyst, collision theory. Why does increasing temperature (concentration, SA) increase the rate of reaction? How does a catalyst work and why does it work for a long time before it needs to be replaced? Draw graphs to show: twice as much acid used; concentration of acid halved, temperature doubled for the acid & marble chips experiment. Rest Correct mistakes. Review week 1 work. Additional homework. June 2012 CH2HP Qs 2a, 2b, 2c, 3b, 3c 2 Define weak and strong acid, precipitate, ionic, covalent, metallic bond, nanoparticle. Suggest a pH for ethanoic acid, hydrochloric acid, ammonia, sodium hydroxide. Write word equations for all acid base reactions. Describe how you would prepare a sample of solid lead iodide precipitate. Describe how you would prepare a solid sample of copper sulphate crystals. Review week 1&2 work. Qs 4, 6a,b, 7 3 Define permanent hardness, hard water, temporary hardness, lime scale, scum. Explain why fluorine is more reactive than iodine. Write equations and observations of the group 7 displacement reactions. Describe and explain the trend in reactivity when Group 1 metals react with water (include any observations and balanced equations). Review week 1-3 work. June 2013 CH3HP Qs 1, 3, 4 Jan 2013 CH2HP Qs 2aii, 2b 4 Define atomic number, mass number, isotope, mole, concentration. Name the salts produced by hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric and ethanoic acid. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of using hard water. Describe how water can be made potable. Explain the purpose of each step. (Clue: think of steps used in industry as well as steps used at home) Review week 1-4 work. Jan 2013 CH2HP Qs 2c, 3a, 4a, 4b, 5ci-5ciii, 6, 7a 5 List the steps in a water treatment plant, define endo-, & exothermic. Why did scientists not approve of Newland’s Periodic Table? Why was Mendeleev’s Periodic Table better than Newland’s? Give three similarities and differences between Newland’s and today’s Periodic Table. Explain why the modern Periodic Table is considered to be a useful tool. Review week 1-5 work. June 2013 CH3HP Qs 6c, 6ei, 7 Jan 2013 CH2HP Qs 1, 7b 6 List the products of acid-base reactions. State the ions present in acids and alkalis. What is the % by mass of C in: CO2, C6H12O6, CH3(CH2)2COOH? Calculate the empirical & molecular formula: 52.2% C, 13% H rest O. RFM = 46 A company want to make 7t of ammonia. How much N2and H2are needed? How much ammonia can be made from 300kg of nitrogen? What is the % yield if only 200kg are produced? N2 + 3H2  2NH3 Review week 1-6 work. June 2012 CH2HP Qs 1, 3a, 5a Hand work in for checking Under times exam conditions Rest day for Chemistry only Review: make notes/ mind maps & test yourself
