Innovation Impact Reports What is a computing innovation? How can we explore innovations? How do computing innovations make impacts?

Computing Innovation? What is a Use the CED to define a computing innovation. Create a VENN diagram with the class to differentiate “machines” from computing innovations. Begin a brainstormed list of 3-5 true computing innovations: smart watch, SnapChat, Spotify, e-readers, etc.

On what day of the month is your birthday? 1 9 17 25 2 10 18 26 3 11 19 27 4 12 20 28 5 13 21 29 6 14 22 30 7 15 23 31 8 16 24 What is a Computing Innovation? Have participants think about a date in their lives that has meaning and select the box with that day of the month

Ready, set, find an innovation! 1 Automotive 9 Health 17 Home 25 Social Media 2 Shopping 10 Agriculture 18 Fitness 26 Appliances 3 Entertainment 11 Gaming 19 Home 27 Travel 4 Sports 12 Toys 20 Outdoors Educational 5 Music 13 Food 21 Communication 29 Robots 6 GPS/mapping 14 Medical 22 Bluetooth Capable 30 Arts & Crafts 7 Wristwear 15 Virtual Reality 23 Assistive Tech 31 Crowdsourcing 8 Pets 16 Data/storage 24 Weather What is a Computing Innovation? Using the broad topic in that box, have them think of or quickly look up a computing innovation for that topic; use turn and talk to brainstorm ideas and allow time for everyone to get an idea to share. Go around the room to share about themselves, their school, their innovation Provide 4x6 notecards or use a white board to have everyone add their innovation to an idea wall (this will be referenced throughout the week and especially on day 3 when going over the Explore PT in depth Create Innovation chart paper while their share  Brainstorm or search online to find a Computing Innovation from the category in the date chosen?

Turn and Talk: It’s your turn….. What innovation impacts your life? Introduce yourself Share the date chosen Share a computing innovation in category – name/type of innovation, what it impacts (society, economy, culture) and one benefit from its use What innovation impacts your life? Have participants turn to page 125 in CED; review Revision #1 Have participants think about a date in their lives that has meaning and select the box with that day of the month Using the broad topic in that box, have them think of a computing innovation for that topic; use turn and talk to brainstorm Go around the room to share about themselves, their school, their innovation Create Innovation chart paper while their share  What data does it input, transform or output?

Start a Brainstorming List: Turn to page XX in your abstractionJournal and begin a list of computing innovations We will add to this list as we continue to explore and discuss; later you will begin projects on innovations working toward completion of your Explore Performance Task for CollegeBoard. Alternately, have students record their ideas on cards and create an innovations wall. The list of computing innovations will form the basis for future projects and the Explore PT. Have many good choices helps students feel prepared to make good selections for the major project.

Classwork/Homework: Research more about your selected innovation using the graphic organizer. Soon you will use this topic for your first major project learning the components of the Explore PT. Use a graphic organizer (see folder) to research more about this in preparation for the first major project report.
