Arrival and Dismissal Early Bird Bus Van/Daycare Parent Pick-Up If there are any changes, please contact the office or send a note in the planner. There is a new safety procedure for daily arrival beginning August 15th. When walking students in the building, parents will not be allowed to go downstairs or through the double doors to walk their child to their classroom. If you are volunteering in the classroom, a special lanyard will be given to volunteers after the announcements. If your child is going home with a friend, it requires 2 notes. Each child’s parent will need to send a note.

Birthdays We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday with him/her. You may bring in cupcakes or cookies or something special for the class on his/her special day.

Snacks Please send in snacks to share with the class. Ex:Crackers, pretzels, granola bars Individual snacks for kids are also fine. Water bottles are encouraged!

Behavior Ready to learn Warning Teacher’s Choice Parent Contact Sticker each day in planner 2 stickers=extra awesome day  Star behavior Chart A star in the planner daily for good behavior in all areas of the day. After every 10 stars they will receive a big star to take to the office. After every 10 stars they get to move their clip down the chart in our classroom. When the student gets 70 stars they will get to come to the schoolwide behavior party. 

Communication Please check your child’s folder EVERY day. I will send home important information throughout the week and daily work. Please sign your child’s planner EVERY day so I know that you have seen his/her behavior report. Please praise your child if they receive a sticker in their planner. This is a BIG DEAL for them and helps them understand that they are accountable for their behavior. Weekly Friday Note Monthly Newsletter(Eaton Rocketeer)-sent home once a month (school-wide info) Parent Conferences and Report Cards(Report cards will be sent home every 9 weeks.) Class website- Friday notes, spelling/vocabulary lists Email and phone

Accelerated Reader I encourage reading at every opportunity, and I am a huge advocate of accelerated reader. It improves reading and encourages students to read more. They will have a goal each nine-weeks period. If the goal is met they may attend a celebration! Help your child meet this goal! Please read 15-20 minutes each night. You can read at home and write the name of the book and author for your child to take the test at school.

Homework I will send home a homework packet each week. It will go home on Friday and should be returned no later than the following Thursday. This packet will include skills that have already been taught and need to be reinforced at home. Later in the year, students may be assigned digital homework in lieu of packets.

Reading Fluency Fluency is important in 2nd grade and will continue to increase with extra practice. I will check fluency throughout the 9 weeks. Read, read, read! 

Math Facts Fluency Math facts fluency is also very important in 2nd grade and will continue to increase with extra practice. Addition and subtraction are our BIG FOCUS this year in math. Please work with your child to help them learn their facts. We will be taking timed tests throughout the year to monitor progress. Practice, practice, practice!
