PTA Programs For parents & students Presented by: Autumn Neagle & Carol Smith

Types of National Programs Turn Key Programs Recognition Programs Grants Combination of all of them. These types of programs will be discuss in another workshop on Saturday. It is being presented by Nathan Monell, National PTA Executive Director.

Reflections This is a National Arts Program – it starts at the local level. All grades and abilities are able to participate Areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual art. 2018-2019 Theme “Heroes Around Me”

Reflections Ideas on how to do the program in your school. Literature - Ask your English teachers to make it a writing assignment. Photography – If you school has a photography class or club – talk to them. Visual Arts – Art teachers love to get their students involved in this. Special Artists – These students really excel in this because it gives them a voice. PTAs can also do after school programs - Provide the supplies and let the students get creative.

Kentucky Kids Day This day was set up by the Kentucky State Legislature on (((DATE))) to let kids know that they are unique and special. We encourage PTAs to do something special for their students. Here are some examples of ways to highlight your students. Red Carpet and take pictures of the kids as they come in – making them feel like a star. Then hang the pictures around the school to showcase your students. Create a theme and build a day around it. Examples Give your students a hand – so a pat on the back, a round of applause at the end of the day, and hand themed items. Your Thumb-body special. – Art work showcasing everyone’s thumb print is unique just like them and that is special. Make an items on this day that will remind them that everyone is unique and special. Put post it notes on lockers – complimenting all your students.

Unity Day This is celebrated the Monday before Thanksgiving. This year it will be celebrated on November 19th. Unity Day is to celebrate cultural difference through art, music, and performances. All PTAs/PTSAs are encouraged to work with their school and community to promote this special day. Ideas for how to celebrate: Every Child In Focus – We are One Posters Multi-Cultural Meals or Panel Discussions Unity Quilt – “Our School Has Unity Covered”

Founder’s Day National PTA was formed on February 17, 1897. Therefore we celebrate Founder’s Day on this date every year. It is a good time to remind your members that PTA has a long and celebrated history of speaking up for our students. Some PTA also make a donation to the KY PTA. Half of the donation remains with KY PTA and the other half is sent to National PTA. All PTAs that make a donation become part of the KY PTA Founders Day Honor Roll.
