What was the Reformation? The Reformation was a 16th-century movement in western Europe that aimed at reforming (changing) some doctrines (ideas) and practices (ways of doing things) of the Roman Catholic Church

What did people not like about the Catholic Church? Sale of indulgences (relief of punishment due to sins that have been committed) Giving leadership roles in the church to those who gave big money$$$ They were more political than spiritual. Corruption (doing things that were not right)

What was a result of the Reformation? Protestant (think protest) churches were created They did thing different from the Catholic church No more religious unity in Western Europe The power of the Catholic church was weakened and did control Europe like they used to before.

Thirty Year War A fight between Catholics and Protestants for religious control of Europe

Counter Reformation The Pope and Catholic Church’s efforts to correct the problems of their ideas. Council of Trent- Meeting where the Catholic Church came to an agreement on what was right and wrong so that they all can be together.
