EASY TO MAKE, HARD TO KEEP

Matthew 5:33-37 NLT 33 “You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the LORD.’ 34 But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. 35 And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool.

Matthew 5:33-37 NLT And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. 36 Do not even say, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. 37 Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.”

10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-13 NKJV

12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 1 Corinthians 7:10-13 NKJV

The ongoing alignment of two becoming one with each other and with God. Created in the likeness of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. One Purpose, One Desire. To please each other.

MARRIAGE IS ABOUT CLOSENESS

We are created to copy Christ, to be co-laborers in the Kingdom of God (Luke 10:2; 1Cor. 3:9, 2 Cor. 6:1), and fellow heirs to the Kingdom (Rom. 8:17).

Genesis 3

Titus 2:14 & Ephesians 5:27 NKJV) 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 27  that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Titus 2:14 & Ephesians 5:27 NKJV)

2 Corinthians 11:23-29 NLT) 23 Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. 24 Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes.

2 Corinthians 11:23-29 NLT) 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26 I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from

2 Corinthians 11:23-29 NLT) the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27 I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food.

2 Corinthians 11:23-29 NLT) I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. 28 Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger?

EASY TO MAKE, HARD TO KEEP The essence of a biblical commitment is a constant, consistent, patient, persistent, pursuit. EASY TO MAKE, HARD TO KEEP

God expects them to keep it! When people make a commitment… God expects them to keep it!

38 For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love 38 For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, 39 or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us. Romans 8:38-39
