TIME TO LEARN ABOUT THE STICKY NOTE RESEARCH TECHNIQUE!!

Now its time to research Most often we would look at several sources when researching for a report but for this example we are only going to be looking at one. After we read we would normally be summarizing our information onto sticky notes, however for the example we will do it together.

Rules for Stickies Don’t write down full sentences Use your own words- summarize or paraphrase- write down the big ideas or specific details Put only one note on a sticky

Remember You do not have to take notes on everything you read. Only take notes on what is going to be useful to you in your report or project. Be Selective

Remember Whenever we are taking notes we should have an objective in mind- in other words- we need to know why we are taking the notes so we only write down what we need to know

Remember Check that your source is credible (in other words from a trustworthy source)- Test your facts ie. Textbook, university source, etc. Not- student project/video etc.

Purpose of practice activity Pretend we are writing a report on unusual animals. You have been asked to write a report that tells us about animals with an unusual appearance (A), with unusual abilities (B), and with unusual habits (C). As you read the following make sure you only write down things about those three items.

Also remember the sticky note technique NO SENTENCES WRITE DOWN THE BIG IDEA ONE NOTE PER STICKY
