Serbian Open Exchange Seven years from the beginning Nenad Krajnović, SOX CTO krajko@sox.rs Zoran Perović, SOX CEO info@sox.rs

SOX started at 2010… Started with 2 services: members peering and L2VPN. Only 2 nodes.

Today SOX… Is neutral and fully open platform for virtual interconnection with Internet Exchange as one of the services

Communication, Cooperation, Collaboration Today SOX… Is nothing like in 2010 Plans are meant to be broken/exceeded Feedback from the community Help from the community New ideas/services Persistence Communication, Cooperation, Collaboration

Today… A lot of members, a lot of services and a lot of sites (maybe to much)

Total traffic over 200Gbps In-house developed sflow collector and analysis system based on pmacct.

Services IPv4 and IPv6 Internet Exchange Private VLANs (QinQ) 4 root DNS servers hosted @ SOX On-demand Anti-DDoS protection in cooperation with Voxility TV channels exchange and distribution CDNs peering Regional peering

Internet measuring tools @ SOX RIPE Atlas Anchor RIPE Atlas probes Ark - CAIDA Route-view node – University of Oregon MLAB – Measurement Lab (Google) RATEL network performance measuring system 12.11.2016

I-root (Netnod) J-root (Verisign) K-root (RIPE) L-root (ICANN) root DNS servers – 4 of 13 in Belgrade, with RTT less then 1 msec

Hosting of RATEL NetTest https://www.nettest.ratel.rs/sr/index

Future plans Expand the network coverage Bring more CDNs, cloud providers, XaaS to the region Further trust building Connect with neighboring IXPs Investment in new services

Lessons, hints, pitfalls Be very, very, very patient and persistent Don’t hesitate to reach out, and ask for help Learn every day, not just about technology, but about human need to communicate Listen to your partners/client/customers Imagine, Invent, Innovate, Integrate Do not plan retiring on the Greek coast with IXP business. IXP will not get you there!!! Communicate, Cooperate, Collaborate 12.11.2016

How SOX really works?
