Illegal mining-minerals Water security: By 2030, it is projected that almost half of the world’s population will live in regions characterized by high water stress.  This is especially troublesome given increasing rates of population growth. Climate change: Carbon trading is the world’s fastest growing commodities market, with the most recent World Bank report estimating the value of global carbon markets at US$176 billion. Criminal networks are already heavily engaged in global carbon markets, exploiting loopholes and naïve investors in order to  extract billions of dollars in criminal proceeds.  Illegal trade in biodiversity
