Collaborative Effort for High Quality Training Baltic+ 2017 course on Convection - Collaborative Effort for High Quality Training Izolda Marcinonienė (Lithuanian HMS) Vesa Nietosvaara (EUMETSAT) Lietuvos hidrometeorologijos tarnyba

Introduction The initiative of 4 countries EUMETSAT support Some statistics The Baltic+ course history Instructors Participants E E LV LT PL A little > changed to “Some”

We used Training Cycle for planning Our needs: Become more competent in satellite meteorology Improve professional awareness and skills Solve regional problems and discuss with teachers Create closer relationship between colleagues I removed a bit > the simulator is a means, not a need. And making one bullet shorter, you may add the rest when speaking. I used in some slide titles an active sentence, following Ian Bells guidance

We applied various learning solutions Online and classroom parts From simple to complex tasks Animations No silent questions – active audience Individual presentations Group work and presentations From simple to complex tasks: Do I catch the meaning correctly?

Before the course: During the course: After the course: Theme Training development plan Structuring the training along the Convection Working Group (CWG) guidelines Resources and forums on the Moodle platform Preparation of Collaborative case studies Schedule During the course: Online and classroom phases Presentations on Collaborative case studies Analysis of satellite information from pre-convective to mature stage Practice on simulator Group/individual presentations After the course: More competent Change of mindset Assessment Share experience Practice on simulator: you can highlight that this type of exercise combines the lessons learned during the course, and allows the forecasters to Structuring the training along the Convection Working Group (CWG) guidelines: here you could actually also show the slide (I have added it in the end of the presentation, you can click at the actually integrate the products using a real convective case. More competent: particularly in using the available convective products skillfully.

Emotions

Conclusions Challenge and necessity: Certificates A good investment From uncertainty to new satellite data and practical usage A step forwards Check personal skills Certificates A good investment Sharing the knowledge

We implemented our action plans Mainly practice on face-to-face meeting Exercises, emotions and social events helped to create memory Publish at the EUMETSAT training bulletin Presentation at ECSS create memory: and also helped to enhance the learning experience. Common presentation: means…?

Recommendations Know the actual needs Competent instructors team - very important Detailed training development plan – good help and necessity Professional audience Review and gather feedback

Thank you!
