That they are stretched and challenged? What do I do to ensure that my students have a good chance of getting A/A*? That they are stretched and challenged?

Do I ensure that my students get a good chance of getting A/A*? That they are stretched and challenged? Summer 2014 65.5% A/A* 45% 5 Lop+ 86% 4 Lop+ 100% 3 Lop+

What do I do to ensure that my students get a good chance of getting A/A*? Knowing what an A/A* is Exam board marking Exam board INSET Exemplar papers from exam board website 2) Knowing the journey any student needs to take from where they are to that A/A* place It needs to be planned Not just about content

What do I do to ensure that my students get a good chance of getting A/A*? The Journey During the GCSE course getting their exam skills up to speed ASAP (by Dec) Lots of exam questions Constant AFL Peer marking and feedback SIR Model answers From then on they should be accessing new material in a A/A* way

What do I do to ensure that my students get a good chance of getting A/A*? The Journey 2) Teaching beyond the syllabus (A level standard) * Through questioning (Socratic) * Blooms taxonomy * Going off-piste – taking advantage of situations as they arise within a lesson * Using what is going on in the news and personal reading – keeping it current, relevant, interesting and exciting

What do I do to ensure that my students get a good chance of getting A/A*? The Journey 3) Preparing them for A/A* from year 7 * Plan the curriculum backwards from an A*/A grade * KS3 is the training ground, an opportunity to build the skills they need – content is less important (SEE analysis, sustainability, annotating diagrams, research, structured writing, etc) * KS3 assessment replicate KS4 assessments
