Mrs. Hake’s Friday, Dec. 3rd edition CLASSROOM 2017-2018 news Sneak Peak Week in Review: at Next Week This week we met X and V. During groups, we worked hard on sounding out to write words. We read an amazing book, Cookie Count, by Robert Sabuda and practiced matching objects to numbers using cookies and adding and subtracting within 5.We even worked on addition problems with missing numbers! YUM! We wrote our wish list at the art center and discussed being generous this time of year and all year long. We completed a giant elf project and an elf application. We also explored sound and the fact that it is made by vibration. Our classroom elf arrived and we are working hard to have him send a good report about us.   Theme for the Week: Gifts and Santa Letter: Q Math: Adding, making ten, missing addends Science/Social Studies: Customs, traditions, and family celebrations Popcorn Word: look/he Upcoming Events: Friday, December 8th – Pretzel Money due Friday, December 15th – Pretzel Day Contact info: Kari Hake khake@tippcity.k12.oh.us 937-667-2275

Ways to prepare for the holidays and practice kindergarten skills: Party The next big celebration in Kindergarten is our Holiday Party. The party will be Tuesday, December 19th at 10:00. As always, parents are welcome, but not obligated to attend our celebration. Our homeroom mom will be contacting families to donate items or time as needed. There is NO gift exchange in Kindergarten! Things to Practice Writing 0– 10 correctly Write letters and numbers in the snow Use a frosty window as a place to practice shapes, numbers, letters, name writing, sight words, addition and subtraction… Match objects to numbers – use ornaments or candy canes. Then try adding and subtracting! Keep Reading! Ways to prepare for the holidays and practice kindergarten skills: Have children sound out to write holiday/new year cards. Have children sign their own name to Holiday cards. Have them sound out and help write thank you notes. Sort ornaments by color and create a pattern. Try adding and subtracting. Count presents. Have children zip their own coat before heading out. Keep moving over the holidays to stay warm – try hopping, skipping, jumping, throwing, and catching. Rhyme with holiday words. Look for target letter and sight words in holiday books. Rainbow WORDS Trace, cut, practice: out look he
