Important Information Ms. Murphy’s Class Classroom Newsletter September 10th, 2018 Important Information Thankful Thoughts As we come to the 17th anniversary of September 11th, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you who serve our country. Thank-you to the soldiers, the firefighters, the police, and the medics who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe. Thank-you to the families who stand behind them. “To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.” ― Dr. Seuss September 6th: Back to School Night(5:30-7) September 10th PTO Meeting 5:30-6:30 PLEASE COME AND JOIN OUR PTO September 20th interims sent home September 25th 8:15-9:15am Parent Advisory Meeting (Come and speak with administration about comments, compliments, or concerns) September 25th Parent Conferences 4-6pm October 5th Layman’s Farm field trip. What We’re Learning This Week Key Vocabulary words letters rhyme author illustrator sort compare describe attribute “we, like, the, my” What We’re Learning This Week Reading: concept of word (understanding that words have meaning), identifying the job of the author and illustrator, identifying and understanding what letters and words are ( c is a letter and cat is a word) High Frequency Words: we, like, (students are expected to recognize and spell a minimum of 10 high frequency words each nine weeks. Spelling/Phonics: letter and sound recognition for letters t, g, n, and p. We will also practice rhyming and identifying the letter sounds at the beginning and ending of a word. Writing: writing our first names and tracing the alphabet, creating an illustration and a sentence to explain it ( with teacher assistance) Math: sorting items by a common attribute (shape, color, size, texture, etc) & calendar skills Science: describing objects ( “larger than a pen, smaller than a ruler, smooth like an apple” etc) Homework Monday- Friday Read for 10 minutes. Search and find the letters: T, G, N, and P within the book. Search and find high frequency words: we, like, my, & the within the book. Sing the days of the week to someone in your family. If your child is still working on counting to 15 please practice counting at home along with the other homework. Please Remember If you plan on volunteering at the school or attending a field trip with us this year, you must be fingerprinted about six weeks in advance. Thank you for your support and cooperation with our policies to keep the kids safe.
